Arachnaphobic ?

Went for a walk around Cremorne Point this morning, camera in hand. There are plenty of these guys and gals around at the moment - I always wonder how they know to build their webs high enough so people don’t walk into them … they are pretty smart really.

Technical stuff about the image:

Shot:

  • Camera: Canon EOS 400D
  • Lens: Canon EF100mm (fixed) f/2.8 macro USM
  • Mode: Manual
  • Aperture: 16.0
  • Speed: 1/50
  • ISO: 400
  • Handheld

Post-production:

  • Exposure: -0.2
  • Sharpness: 5
  • Saturation: 1
  • Colour Tone: 1
  • Crop, border, watermark

Quite proud of this shot (she says modestly) as it’s the best attempt at macro I’ve done so far. Very technical photography genre and hard to get right as I am learning ! I was very lucky with this shot as it was a bright sunny day, enough light that I could set the camera at a small (high number) aperture and still use a fast enough speed to shoot handheld. Generally with macro, I have learned, you do want to use a small aperture to get as much in focus as you can. I also did a couple of shots at f/2.8 (the other end of the spectrum) and they didn’t turn out well at all.

Lisa ! so you still must be lurking around the TT forums :) Hope all is well with you and the business. Agree about rush/photography not being a good mix. It is actually a good hobby for me to practice patience. Do not have much ! Having a business purpose to do it would help a lot.

Hi Donna, Lisa here. Love the photo! I too have an interest in photographer although for the past couple of years I have not been able to spend as much time as I would like on improving my skills. I always ‘intend’ to use the manual features but often am in a rush and end up going back to auto (rush and photography do not go well together!). I need a new camera and need to spend more time upskilling in this area as photography is a service I provide to my clients sometimes when they don’t have the budget or there isn’t the need to contract to a professional photographer. Mainly product photography which is a fun thing to get right when you don’t have a studio, the right lighting equipment and need a new camera! I have a ‘do it yourself’ setup that I use that works fairly well - better results than my clients usually get anyway!

Donna…if there’s one thing in the world I have a fear for - it’s pictures of those things hanging on webs.

    Great photography, Donna….
